How to reinvent yourself

Today, we’re slowly entering the last 100 days of 2024. How are we feeling so far? Those New Year’s resolutions might hit you like a train right now. Or maybe you’ve noticed that you are getting into a rut? No better time to hit the reset button. If you are feeling unfulfilled or stuck, this one is for you.

Whether you’re looking to refocus, build new habits, or chase a long-time dream, the thought of doing so might be overwhelming. Let’s start by taking a moment to pause and reassess. Breathe. Reinventing yourself begins with knowing who you are today, your core values, and who you want to become. Here are some journaling prompts that will help you get some clearance. And if you’re anything like me, this might be a step that you always want to skip but believe me, these are worth giving some time to reflect on (even if it’s just in the back of your mind).

  • How have the past few months been? What were your highs and lows? Figure out what has been working for you and what hasn’t.
  • Evaluate your current progress and acknowledge every win. What small and bigger achievements did you accomplish?
  • Think of when you were truly feeling your best. Where were you, what were you doing? Being in nature, working on a creative outlet, being with or without certain people, window shopping, …
  • What makes you feel fulfilled?

As we are willing to reinvent ourselves, it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with who we are today. So don’t forget to embrace who you are or used to be. You have taken great care of yourself and your life so far. Just like the iPhone 15 was already great, they put an improved 16 on the market (and an even better one might already be on the way). Silly little comparison, but I hope I got my point across with this.

Now, let us look ahead. Who is the person you want to become? What habits, core values, personality traits, etc. do you want to take with you? What do you want to change? Is there anything you want to add? Visualize this with a vision board. Vision boards work wonders. Look at your future version and collect everything that resembles that, from quotes, colors, and aesthetics to clothes, hobbies, and mindsets.

The next thing I want you to do is filter or reset your resources. I believe we 3 main categories: people, places, and content. Take a look at the people around you. I’m not gonna tell you to cut off the people who bring down your mood or energy level. They might be going through a tough time, just like you were. I am going to advise you to limit your time with them or take a distance until you feel like you can be around them without the risk of getting soaked up. Bring your attention to the places you spend most of your time. Give it some love and declutter! A clear space leads to a clear mind. Be aware of the content you consume, and make sure it doesn’t drain you.

What were your New Year’s resolutions for 2024? If you feel like you have been neglecting them, it’s never too late to get a move on it. The reason why you haven’t achieved certain goals yet is probably because they are out of your comfort zone. If not, you probably would have accomplished them already. Might as well call your comfort zone your ‘death zone‘ at this rate. So, put in the effort. Don’t wait for the next January 1st to start working on yourself. You could get a head start and enter 2025 as that upgraded version of yourself. I want you to write down 1 action that you plan to complete within the next 24 hours (feel free to share with us for accountability). Taking action right away like this will give you instant momentum. When it comes to implementing new habits, use tools and technology to your advantage: set reminders as a habit tracker. It normally takes up to 6 consistent weeks until a habit naturally becomes part of your routine.

I recently heard an interesting TED talk by Ashley Stahl. She spoke about how we ‘kidnap’ ourselves from the lives we actually want, just to pay bills, get by, or simply survive. Instead of racing down the highway with blinders on, trying to keep up with everyone around you, it’s time to take a YOU-turn. How are you kidnapping yourself from the life that you really want? We’ve been taught to stop taking risks and be on our guard. So, where are you holding yourself captive? What truths are you avoiding (what do you know that you wish you didn’t)?

Don’t ignore your inner child. Trust what excites you, and follow what feels good. Be your own biggest cheerleader. Because how can you not?

Whether you’ve achieved your goals this year or ended up feeling lost, let’s make these final days count. With fresh energy and a clear purpose, let’s take back control and end the year strong.

Always rooting for you, besties

Lara
